The Washington State Department of Transportation is proposing that at least 5.58 percent of its projects funded by the Federal Transit Administration include participation by minority- or women-owned businesses.
The proposal is part of the agency’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program, which according to a statement, aims “to create a level playing field for firms owned and operated by disadvantaged individuals wanting to participate in federally assisted highway, transit, and aviation programs.”
WSDOT is inviting contractors, labor and trade organizations, small and disadvantaged businesses, and others interested in working with the agency to attend one of its upcoming informational meetings regarding the proposed DBE goal for the remainder of the federal fiscal year 2018 and through Sep. 30, 2020.
Two meetings will take place, one in Seattle and one online:
1-3 p.m., June 11
WSDOT Northwest Region Headquarters
15700 Dayton Ave. N, Shoreline
1-3 p.m., June 12
