The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) has been awarded a $480,000 Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program grant by the U.S. Department of Labor, with the goal of providing services to homeless veterans.
“The fact that WDVA is the only State Department of Veterans Affairs to receive an HVRP Grant is a testament to the outstanding work done by our team,” Director of WDVA, Lourdes E. “Alfie” Alvarado-Ramos, said in a statement. “These funds will allow us to strengthen our commitment to serving veterans across the state, with an additional emphasis on veterans in several Eastern Washington Counties.”
The grant is made up of a previous $300,000 award and $180,000 of new funding. The funds from HVRP are allotted to prepare veterans for future employment and to get them back on their feet to be successful in the work world. The funds can assist with providing the necessary tools for employment such as clothing and transportation, along with services such as skills training and resume building.
The HVRP staff also works to coordinate with other programs to support veterans as they transition into working.
