Washington ranks first statewide for the best community college system in the nation, according to a recent report by personal finance website WalletHub.

In addition, WalletHub’s 2019 Best & Worst Community Colleges report, which compared more than 700 community colleges across 19 key indicators of cost and quality, ranked Pierce College in Puyallup fifth overall in the United States.

In order to determine the best and worst community college systems in the United States, WalletHub drew upon its analysis of 2019’s Best & Worst Community Colleges.

For the state-by-state analysis, WalletHub calculated a weighted average of the scores earned by the community colleges in each state and the number of students enrolled in each school. The state with the highest average corresponds with a rank of number one, or the best community college system.

According to WalletHub’s rankings by state, Washington’s community colleges ranked as follows:

  1. Pierce College — Puyallup
  2. Shoreline Community College — Shoreline
  3. South Puget Sound Community College — Olympia
  4. Big Bend Community College — Moses Lake
  5. Lower Columbia College — Longview
  6. Everett Community College — Everett
  7. Bates Technical College — Tacoma
