Nominations are now being accepted for the City of Tacoma’s 33rd Annual City of Destiny Awards.

The city, through its City Events and Recognition Committee, recognizes exceptional local volunteers each year in categories like youth service, disability advocacy, and environmental sustainability, among others. CERC honors these volunteers in recognition of the improvements they make to the quality of life in the city without any expectation of reimbursement.

“We are so honored and humbled to be able to get to know all of these wonderful volunteers and professionals in Tacoma each year,” said CERC Vice Chair Ashley Jones. “We carefully evaluate all nominations received, and ultimately select the individuals and groups who receive the awards. Awards are presented by members of the City Council and other city leaders during the City of Destiny Awards event, which we also spend months planning and producing.”

To nominate an exceptional group or individual, an online nomination form must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 1. In order for a volunteer to qualify, they must commit their time and energy without compensation, operate within Tacoma city limits during the past 12 months, and cannot be nominated for the same award twice.

More than 250 award recipients have been honored over the years. The 2019 event will be held on Friday, June 14, at the STAR Center in South Tacoma.
