Last month, United Way of Thurston County met with the Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board to award federal funds to local organizations that provide emergency food and shelter. The funds, received from the Department of Homeland Security, totaled $149,554 and were distributed to such organizations as Family Support Center of South Sound, The Salvation Army Olympia, and South Puget Sound Community College.

Those seeking emergency food and shelter can dial 211 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for assistance.
