The United Way of Thurston County is calling for project site submissions for its annual Day of Caring, set for Sept. 28.

The group is looking for service tasks in fields from painting and landscaping to filing for the 26th annual event, which United Way bills as “the single largest day of volunteerism in Thurston County.”

Local companies and organizations jointly come together to assist local nonprofit agencies during the Day of Caring, according to a news release. The agencies submit project requests to United Way, which then organize the volunteer efforts.

Last year, well over 1,000 volunteers converged to complete 52 projects, a spike from the 800 volunteers who worked on 40 projects in 2016.

Though the event is scheduled for the final Friday of September, the group also is accepting applications for projects the following Saturday, which coincides with National Public Lands Day. Those projects will operate jointly with the City of Olympia’s Parks, Arts and Recreation division, according to the online application.

Agencies can complete the application at the United Way of Thurston County’s website. Additional materials and contact information are also available there.
