Organizations in Thurston County can now apply for funding under the Thurston County Heritage Grant Program. The grant request applications can be submitted until Aug. 31 and will be reviewed and ranked in September.
Last year, 10 applications were received and seven were approved for a total of $37,000. The grants supported historic preservation projects such as the transfer of founding documents, the repair of the sandstone front porch of the Tenino Quarry house, and the preservation of vulnerable images in the Schmidt House collections.
In addition to funding the heritage grants, the Board of Thurston County Commissioners has also authorized up to $10,000 per year for projects such as the creation of historic markers and supporting the historic barn documentation project.
The Thurston County Historic Commission will review the applications and grants will be awarded in early 2019. The application can be accessed at www.co.thurston.wa.us.
