Taste of Tacoma in Point Defiance Park has never missed a summer since 1986. The three-day festival of food and live music, however, will be cancelled this summer following the state government restrictions on large group gatherings. While businesses are starting to reopen, Taste of Tacoma recognized that redesigning the layout and implementing safety restrictions would not be practical for this summer.
The festival involves a lot of hard work from Taste of Tacoma and support from the sponsors like Emerald Queen Casino, BECU, Olympic Eagle Distributing, Heritage Distilling Co, Xfinity, as well as the community members who come to enjoy the festival. The event requires months of planning, including securing sponsors and media partners, finding food and craft vendors, chefs, craft breweries, wineries and over 90 entertainment acts as well as building the infrastructure across Point Defiance Park.
“Despite this devastating news, while we will miss bringing the community together to enjoy three days of food and fun in Tacoma, our top priority remains the health and safety of our guests, vendors, employees, bands, chefs, and all involved who help make the Taste of Tacoma the ultimate summer get together,” said Brett Gorrell, president of Festivals Inc, said in a statement.
