Thanks to its commitment to proper tree care in its service area, Tacoma Power was named a member of the 2020 Tree Line USA program by the Arbor Day Foundation, the largest existing nonprofit dedicated to planting trees. Tree Line USA — a partnership between the National Association of State Foresters and the Foundation — recognizes utility companies both public and private that work to protect urban trees nationwide.
“Trees are a critical part of urban landscapes all across the United States,” said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “They provide important benefits to residents, including clean air, clean water, and a tolerable climate. Service providers like Tacoma Power demonstrate that it’s possible for trees and utilities to co-exist for the benefit of communities and citizens.”
In order to be named a 2020 Tree Line USA, Tacoma Power had to meet industry standards for quality tree care, maintain a tree-based energy conservation program, train workers annually on best tree care practices, sponsor a public education program, and celebrate Arbor Day.
Tacoma Power customers also are eligible for a coupon that can go toward the purchase of trees from participating garden centers and nurseries, encouraging more Pierce County residents to plant trees to boots the urban tree canopy cover.
