Thanks to a partnership between the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities, local car-buyers now can receive discounts of up to $3,000 on the purchase or lease of an electric vehicle.

The Electric Vehicle Discount Program applies at participating dealerships from now through the end of November, or until supplies last. Qualifying vehicles include the Nissan Leaf, the BMW i3, the MINI Cooper Countryman plug-in hybrid, the Prius Prime, the Ford Fusion Energi, and the Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid.

The discount also covers some home charging equipment and certain brands of electric bicycles.

Those interested can sign up for the program here. Residents who want to learn more about electric vehicles, and how they might fit into their budgets and lifestyles, can attend a free upcoming workshop offered in collaboration with the Tacoma Public Library.

A full list of dealership discounts can be accessed here. Questions can be directed to the City of Tacoma’s Sustainability Office at electricvehicles@cityoftacoma.org or at (253) 591-5571.
