The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applications for 11 positions on the inaugural Tacoma Creates Advisory Board, which will advise the Tacoma Creates Administration on funding for arts, culture, heritage, and science programs throughout the city.
Those who are interested in applying must be residents of the city of Tacoma; familiar with public programming in arts, culture, heritage, and/or science; and interested in Tacoma Creates goals regarding equity, access, and programs that provide public benefit for residents across Tacoma. Those who have any financial interest in a cultural organization, such as a staffer or contractor that is seeking Tacoma Creates funding, are ineligible to serve on the advisory board.
Appointments will be made based on geographic representation and professional expertise. Five positions are available for community members from each of the five Council Districts, and six positions are available for those with professional expertise in arts, culture, heritage, science, pre-K-12 public education in Tacoma, and expertise in community engagement or community development.
“The overarching thing is that we’re looking for people that are excited about what Tacoma Creates can be,” said Lisa Jaret, Tacoma Creates program manager. “We want those who are looking to support the creative culture in an equitable way, and who are committed to growing the culture in a way that makes Tacoma a better place.”
