As Pierce County endeavors to move on to phase two of Gov. Jay Inslee’s phased reopening plan, a coalition of businesses, nonprofits, the City of Sumner, Sumner Downtown Promotion Association, and the Puyallup-Sumner Chamber of Commerce are kicking off a three-step promotional campaign.
Step one: Open in Sumner. This is designed to help customers find ways to support Sumner businesses virtually before they can fully, physically open. Businesses within Sumner can use the graphic and the hashtag #OpeninSumner to encourage potential customers to browse other ways to support local business. Additional hashtags to use include #ExperienceSumner and #WeLoveSumner.
In addition, the City of Sumner is developing a social media boost grant program that will help fund individual Sumner businesses who use paid social media ads to boost their posts and generate further customers. The City stated that it will announce details about this program next week.
And once Sumner and Pierce County move into subsequent phases of the state’s multi-phased Stay Safe re-opening approach, the coalition will bring back the city’s existing Come On In invitation to encourage locals and visitors to return to Sumner in person.
Step three involves developing plans for resiliency and taking lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic for application in future potential stay home orders, other economic downturns, snow situations, etc.
