South Puget Sound Community College’s (SPSCC) economic impact to Thurston County totaled $930 million for fiscal year 2017-18, according to an economic impact study generated by the Thurston County Economic Development Council.
Using data compiled from the 2017-18 school year, the Economic Impact Analysis dissected the college’s operations spending, student spending, and the impact of alumni who remain in the region and purchase goods and services. Additional highlights from the report include:
- $43 million comes from day-to-day operations spending, payroll, and benefits;
- $5.1 million comes from current students; and
- $340.5 million is generated from alumni working in the region.
”We take our 6,000 students and move them into the community where they help us produce an almost $1 billion impact,” stated SPSCC president Timothy Stokes in a prepared statement.
