Where’s the best place to retire in Washington?
That would be Gig Harbor, according to a recent study measuring tax friendliness, the number of doctors’ offices, and recreation and social opportunities for seniors.
The Best Places to Retire in the U.S. study, released by New York financial technology company SmartAsset, examined data on 525 cities with populations of 65,000 or more. It then compared cities across a wide range of metrics like unemployment rate for seniors, housing costs as a percentage of retirement income, the estimated tax burden for seniors, crime rates, and access to important amenities like retirement communities and medical centers.
According to the findings, Gig Harbor ranked No. 1 among the 10 best places in the state. In the South Sound area specifically, Olympia and Port Orchard also made the list, coming at No. 3 and No. 10, respectively.
