Two businesses from the South Sound have been named 2019 edg3 FUND finalists, giving them a one-in-five chance at winning the $25,000.
Edg3 FUND is a competition held by Kitsap Bank which awards one small business each year for their commitment to the triple bottom line, a business framework growing in popularity which focuses a business’ success with people, the planet, and profits, instead of just one.
To win, a business must show that their operations support the community, the environment, and their own revenue. The winning business also must demonstrate how the prize money will help them continue following the triple bottom line model.
This year, The Art of Crunch, an artisan biscotti bakery from Tacoma, and JT’s Original Louisiana Bar-b-que, a sauce-making business from Gig Harbor, will represent the South Sound area and go up against Camp N Car, Fuchsia Shoes Inc., and Unity Skate Shop for the $25,000.
Entries are judged on their respective impact, viability, and uniqueness as well as the mission alignment to the triple bottom line, according to Kitsap Bank’s website. A $5,000 prize will be awarded to a business from the semi-finalist pool that best embodies the spirit of community in the judges opinions. Tart Cider, LLC and The Artisans Group, both from Olympia, were both named semi-finalists and will be up for the $5,000 alongside the other two South Sound businesses.
