Sound Transit recently announced that Mary Cummings has been appointed as deputy CEO and chief administration officer. Cummings will bring her extensive background in assisting companies in times of growth to play a crucial role in the expansion of transit services throughout the central Puget Sound region.
“Mary has an extensive record of driving business transformation in times of growth, experience that will serve us well as we complete and begin operating five new light rail extensions in the next five years,” Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff said. “She is a strong leader, known for building inclusive and collaborative teams. I am confident Mary will bring her many talents to bear to help lead Sound Transit during this crucial time of rapid expansion.”
Cummings’ previous experience includes serving numerous executive roles at Verizon during a time of major growth for the company, including their major startup phase. During her time with Verizon she oversaw the company’s largest international investment while serving as Vice President for Verizon Wireless Latin America.
She has also served in many higher education roles, which include positions such as adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Program Director of the Carnegie Bosch Institute, and Vice President of Student Services at Waynesburg University.
Cummings earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Pittsburgh, her Master of Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business, and is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Business at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
