Seattle Southside tourist spending rose 6.4 percent last year, reaching $771 million, according to the Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority’s recently released annual report.
The Seattle Southside RTA is the destination marketing organization for Seattle Southside, including the cities of SeaTac, Tukwila, and Des Moines. Using data gathered by Dean Runyan Associates, the annual report highlights the positive economic impact tourism has on the local communities the RTA promotes.
Highlights from the 2019 annual report include:
- 5,130 people work in the tourism industry in Seattle Southside.
- The Seattle Southside tourism industry generated $79.2 million in local and state taxes. These funds help provide jobs and public programs, such as police, firefighters, teachers and road projects.
- The Seattle Southside RTA’s efforts directly generated $291 million in visitor spending, with $61.46 in visitor spending for each dollar spent on promoting the regional destination.
- The Seattle Southside RTA sales team generated 11,329 hotel rooms booked for group, convention, and conference business in 2018.
