The City of Puyallup announced in a recent press release that it has launched the “Winter-Ready Restaurant and Retail Grant Program.”

The program, according to the release, offers eligible businesses up to $5,000 to expand services to online platforms and to in-person customers as winter ramps up. A total of $150,000 will be allocated.

Grants may be used on tents, awnings, website improvement, heaters, and other relevant items.

“This a really great program with the potential to help many of our valued local businesses meet the continuing challenge of reduced occupancy restrictions,” said Puyallup’s economic development manager Meredith Neal in the press release. “Puyallup business owners have already shown they are resilient and can adapt to new ways of doing things, and we look forward to seeing how they get creative with these additional tools. The goal is to assist businesses in welcoming more customers in a way that is safe and enjoyable, and keeps more people employed.”

Per the release, a business is eligible if they have a brick-and-mortar location within Puyallup’s city limits. Independent and locally own retail and food/drink establishments are encouraged to apply as are Washington-based franchises. Non-local franchises, however, aren’t eligible, the release stated.

Nonprofits are ineligible; a business applying must have had an active business license before March and seen impacts from COVID-19, the release said.

Applications must be accepted by Nov. 16. For more information, go to the City of Puyallup’s website.
