Puget Sound Energy has entered into an agreement with Douglas County PUD under which PSE will purchase a 5.5 percent share of hydroelectric power produced by the Wells Hydroelectric Project.
The agreement, which lasts for the next three years, will provide PSE with 25 MW of power, enough to power approximately 20,000 homes. Douglas County PUD marketed the hydroelectric power on behalf of the Colville Tribe.
“Acquiring additional carbon-free resources is important to PSE and its customers,” PSE Senior Vice President of Policy & Energy Supply David Mills said in a statement. “Having a stable energy supply from these great projects on the Columbia River will help ensure we have another energy source for our customers during the peak winter months.”
The power purchase is part of PSE’s effort to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 percent by 2040.
