A 13.9-acre property located along the Hylebos Waterway on the Port of Tacoma tide flats was purchased by a development company headquartered in the Midwest.
The property, located at 1840 Marine View Drive, once was home to Tacoma Boatbuilding Company, a shipyard that opened in the 1920s, employed a few thousand people at its peak, but later filed for bankruptcy and was liquidated in the late-1990s.
Today, the site is home to Jesse Co., a steel fabrication and machinery manufacturing company.
CenterPoint, which is headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, acquired the property, which offers rail, dock, and launch way access, and is close to Interstate 5 and State Route 167.
“This site offers a unique combination of marine access, Tacoma Rail access, and long-term utility,” said Ryan Dunlap, Senior Vice President of Investments at CenterPoint, in a press release. “We are thrilled to include this property in our Seattle-Tacoma portfolio.”
CenterPoint also owns property in Auburn, Fife, Kent, Seattle, Sumner, and Tukwila.
