The Utilities and Transportation Commission recently approved a $989.80 grant to the Port of Chehalis for making safety upgrades to 21 of its railroad crossings.

The funding will be used for improvements that include adding Emergency Notification System signs to 19 crossings, replacing a yield sign at one crossing, and replacing an advance warning sign and a crossbuck sign at two crossings.

Any additional costs that the project incurs will be covered by the Port of Chehalis. The safety improvements must be completed by September 30.
