A partial recount has been scheduled for the offices of U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative in the 10th Congressional District, a region that centers around Olympia and includes parts of Thurston, Pierce, and Mason counties.
Currently representing the district are Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Representative Denny Heck. Both Cantwell and Heck are running for reelection this year.
In the primary last month, Sen. Cantwell, a Democrat, received approximately 55.2 percent of votes. Susan Hutchison, a Republican, received approximately 24.2 percent of votes.
In the House race, Rep. Heck, the incumbent and a Democrat, received approximately 58.6 percent of votes. Joseph Brumbles, a Republican, received approximately 31.7 of votes.
The Pierce County Auditor will begin the recount on Sept. 5 and conclude it at a public Pierce County Canvassing Board Meeting at 2 p.m. on Sept. 7.
Due to requests received from candidates running in the two races, the Office of the Secretary of State called for the recount at four Pierce County precincts (28-338, 28-528, 28-549, and 28-555), along with others in King, Snohomish, and Thurston counties.
Candidates who requested the recount are responsible for the costs incurred.
