Physicians of Southwest Washington (PSW) has appointed Michael Shannon to serve as its physician executive.

In his role, Shannon will focus on specialty care and utilization management for PSW and contracted partners.

Previously, Shannon held one of the three medical director positions, supporting PSW’s Medicare Advantage (MA) and Accountable Care Organization (ACO) contracts, in Olympia.

Shannon is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington. He also serves on the Editorial Board of Clinical Diabetes, and is the chair of the Professional Education Committee for the Washington chapter of the American Diabetes Association.

Shannon graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Diego and then went on to perform an internal medicine residency, geriatrics fellowship, and endocrinology fellowship at the University of Washington. He has spoken nationally and internationally on diabetes and other endocrinology conditions.
