Open Pierce County, a countywide initiative sparked by Executive Bruce Dammeier in his 2018 State of the County Address, is one of several efforts to increase transparency and accountability. Over a handful of months, the Pierce County website has been updated to provide insight into the behind-the-scenes of the community and government in Pierce County.
To provide transparency in as organized a way as possible, the website divides information into three segments accessible to the public: Open Performance, Open Budget, and Open Data. Open Performance examines the county’s accomplishments surrounding vibrant communities, entrepreneurial climate, and effective government. The Open Budget section guides viewers through complicated financial information related to the county, while Open Data provides metadata that can be made into filters and charts.
“Our goal is to give people a clear window into their county government,” Brian Hardtke, director of Policy and Deputy Counsel, said in a statement. “There’s still a lot of work ahead, but we’re pleased to have reached this important milestone and we’re excited to get more and more information about Pierce County out to the public.”
