The Tacoma-based insurance firm was first established in 1888 under the name Sampson & Durgin and has undergone a series of successful mergers and partnerships. The company is now known as Brown & Brown, after it was acquired by the international insurance firm in 2001, but the local office hasn’t forgotten its roots. Near the entrance of its downtown Tacoma location is a timeline of the firm’s 130-year history, including an original insurance policy, dated Nov. 10, 1892.
In 2018, the downtown Tacoma branch received a national honor from the parent company, dubbing it “Office of the Year” for the second year in a row. We took a tour of the airy space designed by BCRA architecture firm. Take a look.
On the Walls
The insurance firm has been operating in Tacoma for 130 years. The history has been neatly documented along a wall, including the original insurance policy written for Eben Pierce.
Take a Break
A break room with a view. Staff can unwind from the busy work day with their lunch or a game of shuffleboard while overlooking downtown Tacoma.
Office decor reflect the interests of employees, and an open concept helps facilitate collaboration between staff.
Light and Bright
Exposed wood beams, natural lighting, and glass-lined walls make the environment at Brown & Brown calming and relaxed.
Each conference room is named after a local brewery. This space overlooks a South Sound fixture and has been appropriately named 7 Seas.
