A new community hub, the first YMCA to be located in Kent, is set to open this September between Morrill Meadows Park and East Hill Park along Southeast 248th Street. The YMCA is part of a larger project that creates a single space encompassing the two parks in Kent’s East Hill.

Featuring an aquatic center, a fitness center with studios for yoga and group classes, a community kitchen, and welcome center, among other amenities, Kent YMCA becomes the third YMCA in the South Seattle region after Auburn Valley YMCA and Matt Griffin YMCA in SeaTac.

A recent $250,000 contribution from the Delta Air Lines Foundation helped Kent YMCA reach the 95 percent mark of its $36.6 million fundraising goal.

“I’m well aware of the great work the Y is doing to build community and encourage the healthy development of our youth,” said Tony Gonchar, Delta’s Vice President of the Seattle region who also serves as a YMCA of Greater Seattle board member. “This grant from The Delta Air Lines Foundation will ensure the Y continues their service to our community for generations.”

Other major contributions from private organizations include a $1 million donation from the Morford family and $500,000 from Employees Community Fund of Boeing.
