On Friday, Sept. 5, Pure Barre celebrated the opening of a new University Place studio, its first location in the South Sound.

The studio is owned by local entrepreneurs Angie and Malia Osbourne. The mother-daughter duo fell in love with Pure Barre’s high-energy, low-impact workouts after taking a class together. They are thrilled to bring to the workout to the Tacoma area.

Being able to open a business that creates a connection and sense of community for our members is something I’m passionate about and I’m excited to combine that with my love for fitness,” Angie said.

Pure Barre’s workouts target strength, cardio, and flexibility in a high-energy atmosphere. Its 45-50 minute classes are set to music and combine isometric movements and dance choreography for a total-body workout.

For Malia, “Pure Barre is a workout you can do at any phase of your life. It allows your body and muscles to strengthen without putting tons of impact on your joints. This is something that we both really believe will benefit the Tacoma community.”

Prior to opening the studio, Angie started her own practice as a marriage and family counselor, which she continues to operate. Malia’s background is in business and event-planning.

Since its founding in 2001, the California-based business has become the largest barre studio franchise in North America, with over 500 studios across the U.S. and Canada. It currently has ten locations across Washington, including studios in Seattle, Vancouver, and Spokane.

Pure Barre Tacoma is located at 3556 Marketplace W, Ste 106 in University Place. The studio is currently offering free introductory classes. Find more information and a full schedule at their website.
