MultiCare Health System has acquired Capital Medical Center, a move that adds 700 Capital Medical Center employees to MultiCare.

MultiCare is the largest community-based, locally governed health care system in Washington.

Capital Medical Center will now be known as MultiCare Capital Medical Center.

MultiCare purchased the ownership interest in Capital Medical Center from LifePoint Health, as well as the small percentage of ownership that was held by a group of community physicians and UW Medicine. With 100 percent ownership, MultiCare stated that it will be able to transition the Olympia-based hospital to nonprofit status over time.

“We’re excited to add Capital Medical Center to our existing network of care in Thurston County and provide our community with more choices, better access, and better coordination,” said Bill Robertson, president and CEO of MultiCare Health System, in a prepared statement. “Expanding access to care allows us to continue to strive toward improving the economic, social, educational and health status of the diverse populations we serve.”
