The Kent Police Department is now accepting applications for its free fall Community Police Academy. Classes occur over the course of 10 weeks, to start on Sept. 26 and end on Dec. 5.

According to a statement released by Kent Police, “A wide range of law enforcement topics will be discussed to include an overview of law enforcement, recruiting/hiring for new employees, traffic enforcement, investigations, narcotics, gangs, community education, use of force, stress and chaplaincy, and K-9.”

Applicants must be over 18 years old and pass a background check. After seven classes, students are allowed to participate in a ride-along with a Kent Police officer.
