A South Sound developer is breathing new life into the former Star Lite drive-in in Lakewood.
Kent-based Davis Property & Investment (DPI) started construction this week on the Starlite Distribution Center, a 246,000-square-foot facility situated on 14 acres along South Tacoma Way. The project, which is located at 8327 South Tacoma Way and is expected to be completed by the middle of next year, is being built on land zoned for commercial use, according to DPI representatives, and would be suitable for storage and warehousing purposes for single or multiple tenants.
The Star Lite drive-in opened in 1948 and operated as such until the mid-1990s. Most recently, the site was home to the Star Lite Market Place Square swap meet, which closed in May.
Founded in 1998, DPI offers real estate and asset management services, and has developed a range of commercial real estate projects, such as distribution centers and business parks, in South Sound cities that include Auburn, Fife, DuPont, Kent, Lacey, Puyallup, Sumner, and Tacoma.
