Seven South Sound community service organizations soon will be a bit more mobile thanks to Intercity Transit’s Van Grant program.

Now in its 15th year, the program identifies vanpool vehicles poised to be sold as surplus due to high mileage and extended time in service, and directs those vehicles to nonprofit and community service organizations in order to better serve their clients in Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, Yelm, and their urban growth areas.

To date, the program has directed nearly five-dozen former vanpool vehicles following a competitive review and award process, according to Intercity Transit officials.

This year, vehicles were awarded to Behavioral Health Services, Catholic Community Services, Community Youth Services, Family Education and Support Services, Kokua Services, Nature Nurtures Farm, and Senior Services for South Sound.
