The on-demand staffing app, Instawork, announced its expansion into the Pacific Northwest this month. The San Francisco-based company, which enables hospitality businesses and event venues to quickly build a staff for specific tasks, has quickly established roots in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Chicago, New York, and other major cities, and plans to add Seattle to the list.
By posting their availability to the app, employers see lists of professionals in their region as well as their qualifications and reviews. In a nutshell, the app is designed to help bartenders, cooks, servers, and other hospitality professionals find consistent gig employment.
Furthermore, Instawork conducted a recent survey in Seattle and found that many industry workers do not have enough work per week to meet their earning needs. The app encourages businesses and professionals to rate each other, with the aim of further supporting employment to those succeeding in the industry.
“There are about 10.7 million Americans employed in the hospitality industry” said Sumir Meghani, CEO and co-founder of Instawork. “Hospitality businesses struggle with high staff turnover and spend around 80 percent of their time on staffing and logistics. Instawork helps experienced and reliable staff match with job opportunities at the click of a button.”
The pioneering app is made for iOS and Android, and is available online and has already been used by businesses such as Seattle Tennis Club and Columbia Hospitality. According to Instawork, 24,000 Seattle-area residents have already downloaded the app in a short beta period.
