Heron’s Key, a $145 million development in Gig Harbor, is celebrating its grand opening this week. Described as an “amenity-rich Life Plan Community,” Heron’s Key features 184 independent living apartment homes, 10 cottage homes, and an on-site health center called Penrose Harbor.

The new community is affiliated with the Redmond-based nonprofit Emerald Communities. Spread across 18 acres, the Scandinavian-inspired retirement village contains a fitness center, massage and day spa, woodshop, and scenic walking trails. Heron’s Key offers several different lifestyle options to residents depending on their needs.

Heron’s Key has been open to residents since last fall. A private grand opening is scheduled for this week. Prospective residents can register for a tour of the location on June 16.

According to a statement from Heron’s Key, the retirement community is expected to boost the local economy by $13.7 million annually.
