Mechanics and coach operator teams from Intercity Transit placed in every category of the State Transit Association Annual Roadeo last week.
The challenge brought together transit organizations from across Washington – and one from Oregon – to practice maintenance, driving and customer service skills in friendly competition.
Intercity Transit earned the 2016 Roadeo Grand Champions based on a combination of maintenance and 40-foot coach scores.
Its team members also scored on the following competitions:
- Body on Chassis (Dial-a-Lift): Dan Savage, first place
- 35’ Coach: Rob Wood, first place
- 40’ Coach: Bill Miller, fourth place
- Pre-trip Award (pre-drive inspection): Dan Savage
IT participants trained extensively on their own time leading up to the event. Operators practiced their driving, customer service, and safety skills 140-150 hours before the event.
“The competition highlights the depth and breadth of expertise we try to maintain to provide reliable, safe service to our community,” said IT General Manager Ann Freeman-Manzanares. “We’re very proud of the participants and the entire team that supports them.”
Intercity Transit is a municipal corporation providing public transportation for people who live and work in Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Yelm.
