Wells Fargo recently awarded the Tacoma Goodwill Heritage Foundation a $25,000 grant to support staffing in Longview and Yakima for Goodwill’s Warehouse & Logistics job training program.

Launched in 2009 in partnership with Tacoma Community College, this free, seven-week course provides classes in the transportation/warehouse/logistics field to job seekers and provides case management support to help each person succeed in class, in finding work, in career advancement, or in further education.

Offered quarterly at Goodwill’s three work opportunity center sites in Tacoma, Longview and Yakima, the course is delivered via videoconference technology to maximize community impact.

“We are very grateful for the support of Wells Fargo,” said Terry Hayes, CEO of Tacoma Goodwill. “This funding is so important to help us reach across our territory and give more people in Yakima and Cowlitz County the opportunity to participate in this training program.”

Participants are taught by instructors with real world job experience. Over the seven weeks, they learn basic computer, customer service, and work-readiness skills, visit local logistics operation sites, and earn a general warehouse clerk certificate, forklift certificate and can apply for the national Certified Logistics Assistant credential. Graduates are then assisted in job placement with local and regional employers in the industry. To date, over 600 job seekers have graduated from the class, and 70 percent have been placed in jobs.
