The University of Washington Tacoma is hosting its 2018 Veterans Incubator for Better Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition. The deadline to submit business plans to the competition is April 13, 2018.

UW Tacoma’s website states that the goal of the competition is to encourage the creation of new businesses in the South Sound area. The website also states that the competition is for students of all majors, not just those studying business.

Each team that enters the contest must include at least one student who is enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited Washington state college or university and at least one member who is a veteran or currently active in the military.

Any business plans submitted must be created during the students’ tenure at a university and must be the original work of the students submitting.

While each team can include non-student members, only students are allowed to earn prize money. Students must also hold at least 51 percent of the ownership of any business submitted to the competition.

Last year’s winning business plan belonged to a company called Tart Hard Cider. Created by U.S. Army veteran Zoe Van Schyndel and U.S. Air Force veteran Nick Timm, Tart Hard Cider earned $25,000 in cash and $25,000 of in-kind services.

Examples of prior business plans submitted can be viewed here and here. Submit proposals online here, and review the rules of the competition here.
