Commercial trucks, cars and drivers using southbound Interstate 5 in Lewis County tonight will need to plan ahead for an overnight detour.

Contractor crews working for the State Department of Transportation will continue work to remove and replace two damaged concrete girders and a portion of the bridge deck on the Koontz Road overpass near Napavine in Lewis County.

A single-lane of I-5 headed toward Portland will close intermittently beginning at 8 p.m., with all lanes of southbound I-5 detouring overnight, from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. for bridge repair work. The short detour route via State Route 508 to Jackson Highway will carry traffic to US 12 before being routed back onto the freeway.
