South Sound BIZ magazine is announcing the 2017 South Sound Top Places to Work this week with a series of Facebook Live events, accompanied by CEO Lon Wilson of Albers & Company and ConnectHR, supporting sponsors of this recognition program.
KMB architects of Olympia is the largest South Sound architecture firm today, after three decades of growth. And with near-record profits in 2016, it’s clearly also a Top Place to Work, collecting the mid-sized employer award in this established recognition program, adds to two citations from prior years.
This year’s judges found KMB to be “a stand-out nominee for its strong mentoring culture and succession planning.” It also offers employees unlimited paid time off from their date of hire, pays fully for employees’ health insurance and accommodates work-from-home, when appropriate. Seventy percent of managerial positions have been filled with in-house promotions.
“As KMB has continued to grow,” wrote one employee in a confidential survey, “there has been investment in the ‘next generation’ (of building designers.)” The firm has also created a career pathway with the local community college that helps educated design technicians to learn their way to official accreditation.
“KMB is a great place to work because it is a very professional, yet very personal, environment,” reads another employee survey. “It is clearly understood that everyone has something great to offer.”
