Thurston County commissioners decided this week that the best person to be County Manager is already doing that job on an interim basis.

Ramiro Chavez, the former Public Works Director, has been leading the administrative functions since June 2016, when his predecessor left for a state government position.

“We have been very impressed with Ramiro in the County Manager position,” said Commission Chair Bud Blake. “He has a great understanding of county business and is very competent in his management. Asking him to remain … was an easy decision.”

Chavez began his Public Works Director role in August 2014, after 23 years with Pierce County Public Works. Originally from Ecuador, South America, he has been a resident of Thurston County for the last 28 years.

County Commissioners will begin the recruitment process for the Public Works Director position currently filled by Interim Director Scott Lindblom.
