Tacoma Community House will soon receive a big boost from the Employees Community Fund of Boeing.
ECF is set to visit the South Sound nonprofit to present a $500,000 check on Thursday, Aug. 31. The funds will go toward TCH’s “Embracing the American Promise: Uniting Communities” capital campaign to fund a new building for the group.
Tacoma Community House is working to raise $11M to replace the agency’s existing, outdated building and construct a new, two-story, 27,000-square-foot. facility. ECF of Boeing's half-million-dollar contribution brings fundraising to nearly $4 million, with another $2.5M in funding pending in the State capital budget.
The building’s construction will be a long-awaited upgrade for TCH, which serves over 3,500 immigrants, refugees, and low-income South Sound residents each year through its four core programs: education, employment, immigration and advocacy. The nonprofit has served the community from the same Hilltop block, on 13th and L Streets, since 1910.
