One of Tacoma’s most beloved Italian restaurants will soon close its doors.

Adriatic Grill Italian Cuisine and Wine Bar has announced that its last day of business is Sunday. According to a statement from owner/operators Bill and Monique Trudnowski, the building owner has sold the property and has ended the lease.

Adriatic Grill opened in 2007 as the original concept of Bill — who remains Adriatic’s chef — with Monique managing front-of-house and bar operations. The restaurant has 36 employees.

The closure comes as a result of the building’s owner selling the property and ending the Adriatic Grill’s lease. “This is the second landlord we have had during the 11 years of being here,” said Bill. “When I initially heard of the landlord’s desire to sell, I was in talks to get funding to buy the building. My goal was for the Adriatic Grill to remain here and continue to employ all of our great crewmembers and give back to the community.”

The Trudnowskis said that their futures remain open, with Bill “hoping to find another spot where the Adriatic Grill can re-emerge someday soon.”

He added that he is currently looking for locations, but “something smaller.”

“I love my guests,” he said, “and I love my crew. This is heartbreaking.”
