Robblee’s Total Security in Tacoma is celebrating 100 years in business.
The full-service, residential, commercial, and industrial security company technically started in 1913 as a bicycle and automobile tire repair shop. Back then the company was called J.A. Robblee & Company, and was run by James A. Robblee and his five brothers. In 1918, another Robblee brother came on board, William A. Robblee, and added a safe and lock division to the business.
“Even a hundred years ago, the company was very progressive in that it made its objective to meet the needs of the community, versus to sell a product or service,” said Jim Patterson, the current president of Robblee’s. “This allowed us to be forward thinking and flexible. We’ve been able to evolve with the needs of the community as the security industry and its offerings have evolved.”
Over the years, Robblee’s has secured everything from bank safes to speakeasies, and was able to weather exceedingly tough times during the Great Depression.
“It takes more than resilience to survive more than a century. It isn’t just drive. Times and technologies are changing quickly. To survive in that environment it takes a willingness to change and adapt,” Patterson explained.
The company is now operated by its fourth generation of brothers. For more information, visit Robblee’s online.
