Amazon has released the list of cities that advanced to “Round 2” of its search for a second home, with the Tacoma/South Sound bid unfortunately not making the cut.
Twenty potential cities were named today as a “shortlist”: Atlanta; Austin; Boston; Chicago; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas; Denver; Indianapolis; Los Angeles; Miami; Montgomery County, Maryland; Nashville; Newark; New York City; Northern Virginia; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Raleigh; Toronto and Washington, D.C.
The Seattle-based e-retailer received 238 bids for its second headquarters, nicknamed HQ2. Amazon said it will collaborate in the coming months with each community left in the running to evaluate how they can accommodate its future plans.
One thing that may have hurt the South Sound’s bid was proximity to Amazon’s existing King County campus. Los Angeles was the only West Coast city to make the cut, and only L.A., Denver, Dallas and Austin were west of the Mississippi.
