The City of Tacoma will hold a Tech Mixer on Wednesday, Aug. 24, the latest event in the City’s ongoing efforts to promote high tech business in the area.
To be held from 5-7:30 p.m. at the One Pacific Building, the City’s Community and Economic Development Department hopes to event to tout Tacoma’s positives to the industry, including a pipeline of entry level graduates from University of Washington Tacoma and other nearby schools, affordably priced office space and the ability for potential workers to own or rent residential properties downtown.
Additionally, the City is also looking to help promote the One Pacific space to a prospective business.
“A private owner has contacted me, and she said, ‘I think this space is perfect for a tech company,’” explained Ricardo Noguera, Tacoma’s community and economic development director. “What I’m doing is killing two birds with one stone. I’ve invited some tech companies we work with here to share why they’re here in Tacoma and why they chose to be here, and at the same time, she’s going to showcase her space.”
There will be three tech companies and a residential realtor at the event, Noguera said.
“She’s worked with a number of folks who are moving down from Seattle,” he said. “She’s going to discuss why these folks are moving down from Seattle and what’s their interest in Tacoma.”
Currently, the event is invitation-only. Interested parties can contact Noguera at the City of Tacoma at 253-591-5139.
