The City of Tacoma is conducting a study aimed at reviewing its procurement process and contract awards, including those to small, disadvantaged, minority and women-owned businesses.

Named, aptly, the 2018 Disparity Study for the City of Tacoma, the study will be conducted by Atlanta-based law firm Griffin & Strong. The firm will also conduct analysis of the Tacoma Small Business Enterprise and Local Employment and Apprenticeship Programs. The company has partnered with local business The Planning Studio to complete community outreach and anecdotal interviews.

To kick off, an informational meeting is being facilitated to discuss the study, its purposes, methodology, and ways the public and business community can be involved. The meeting will be held on Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Tacoma Public Utilities, Room ABN-M1, 3628 S. 35th St. Tacoma, WA 98409.

Business owners, community groups, business organizations and local advocates regardless of ethnicity are encouraged to attend and find ways to participate.
