As expected, Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber officially endorsed the “$12 for Tacoma” campaign in support of Measure 1B, which would phase in a $12 minimum wage over two years.

The measure was a compromise proposal put forward by the Tacoma City Council, after the Chamber's CEO Tom Pierson wrote the mayor a letter stating the $15 Now campaign would be too much for Tacoma's businesses.

“That kind of extreme and overnight change will harm Tacoma's economy and small businesses across the city,” Pierson said in a statement. “This is why Measure 1B makes so much sense as a compromise that the entire Tacoma community can get behind. It will increase the minimum wage to $12 while giving business owners two years to adapt to the change.”
