This week, the Squaxin Island Tribe will open up the first ever retail marijuana store on a reservation.

The new store, “Elevation,” comes after years of discussion between the Tribe and the state's Liquor and Cannabis Board, establishing a strict set of regulatory rules to “prevent crime, protect safety and prevent access by minors,” according to a press release. Products sold will be legal under both state and tribal law. And sales will be taxed by the Tribe with proceeds dedicated to essential government services.

“We hope this new revenue stream will create jobs and resources hat benefit the entire community,” said Council reasurer Vicki Kruger.

The store will be located in Kamilche, near Shelton and across the street from Little Creek Casino Resort (90 W State Route 108). The grand opening will take place on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 4:20 p.m.
