While KPLU tries to save itself from a merger, KMAS Radio of Shelton appears to welcome consolidation with open arms.
The Mason County radio station announced that it has merged with iFIBER ONE, a division of iFIBER Communications which produces local news and sports coverage in the Columbia Basin.
“We are extremely excited to add KMAS to the iFIBER Communications family,” said Kelly Ryan, CEO and founder of iFIBER Communications. “KMAS has a solid listenership. Their leadership team brings extensive knowledge to our mix. We look forward to expanding our media segment with their involvement.”
Under the agreement, Dale Hubbard and Jerry Eckenrode, owners of Olympic Broadcasting and KMAS, have joined iFIBER Communications. Hubbard will manage iFIBER ONE as its president, overseeing all media operations, while Eckenrode will oversee the administrative duties as office manager.
KMAS Newsradio will change its name to iFIBER ONE Newsradio KMAS, and kmas.com is now ifiberonenewsradio.com.
At first glance, the disparity in geography would seem curious, but iFIBER communications, a reseller of fiber optic services, does business in Mason County as well as Grant, Chelan, Douglas and Pend Orville counties.
