Businesses and other property owners in downtown Olympia may want an update on local plans for dealing with a potential future rise in sea levels.

The City, LOT Clean Water Alliance and Port of Olympia are in preliminary stages of creating a response plan to protect current dry land areas from the impacts of sea level rise. The parties have a community meeting scheduled next Tuesday (6/27) evening on the topic.

Olympia’s recently adopted Downtown Strategy deemed planning for possible rising tides a priority and staff will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. to answer questions about the current understanding of sea level rise and past work efforts. At 7 p.m., the formal presentation on project approach, schedule, community engagement and expected outcomes will begin.
