Recreational vehicle fans often enjoy the facilities of Washington state parks, so it was a natural connection that brought financial support to the system that is suffering under budget cutbacks.
From two recent trade shows produced in Puyallup and Seattle by MHRV, a trade association of manufactured homes and RV manufacturers, dealers and vendor organizations, some box office revenue was donated to Washington State Parks Foundation.
A ceremony in Olympia Monday saw $7,188 go toward financial support of the parks. This represented $1 from every nondiscounted adult and senior ticket sold at the shows.
“Owning an RV wouldn’t be nearly as fun in you couldn’t spend time in our state parks,” said Dave Helgeson, MHRV show director. “But we’re in danger of losing some of them.
“More than 40 are at risk of closure due to massive budget cuts, so we felt we needed to help in some way,” he said.
The two 2013 trade shows drew more than 25,000 consumers and more information is on the web.
